Table Top Boats
Set sail across the picnic table and deliver these candy treasures to everyone!
Prep time: 25 min.
Difficulty: Challenging
What you'll need:
- An assortment of your favorite Mars candies, such as SNICKERS® and TWIX® Brand Minis, STARBURST® Brand FUN SIZE® and M&M’S® Brand Milk or Peanut Chocolate FUN SIZE® Candies
- 1 sheet construction paper or card stock
- 1 dowel or stick (18 inches long)
- 1 12-inch square sheet pattern paper
- 1 sheet solid color paper, such as blue, yellow or red
- 1 walnut-size nugget craft clay
- 1 foil oval baking pan (approximately 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches)
- Colored tissue paper
- Non-toxic glue or double-stick tape
- Scissors
- Printable template
What to do:
- Measure the sides of the foil container. Cut a strip of construction paper wide enough to cover the container’s sides. Glue or tape the strip to the container.
- Fold the pattern paper in half. Place the long side of the printable template along the paper fold, and then cut a sail from the pattern. Cut the flag template from the solid colored paper.
- Open the sail and spread the inside of the paper with glue. Place the dowel in the crease and fold the sail around it, so that the pattern is visible on both sides. Attach the flag to the top of the sail by gluing it in the same way.
- Press the nugget of craft clay into the foil container’s bottom. Place the bottom tip of the dowel with the sail into the clay. Then, fill the bottom with a crumple of tissue paper and fill with assorted Mars candies.
Tip: Your grocery store has a variety of different foil baking pans. Choose oval-shaped containers such as the one in the photo, called a casserole baking pan, or use baked potato foil pans. If you can’t find an oval-shaped foil-baking pan, choose a small rectangular loaf pan and gently shape one end into a rounded tip.
