One for the teacher, one for the lunchbox, and the rest for the bake sale!
Prep time: 30 min.
Baking time: 12-14 min.
Decoration time: 10 min.
Difficulty: Moderate
What you'll need:
- 1 bag M&M’S® Brand Milk or Peanut Chocolate Candies
- 1 18-oz. roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough
- 2/3 cup flour
- Printable template or apple-shaped 2-1/2-inch cookie cutter
- 1 7-oz. bag soft caramels, unwrapped
- Green & red food coloring
- Craft sticks
What to do:
- Blend the flour into the cookie dough. Remove 1/3 cup dough and tint it with the green food coloring. Tint the rest of the dough with the red food coloring.
- Roll out the red dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Press out cookies using the printable template or apple-shaped 2-1/2-inch cookie cutter. Press a craft stick into the back of each cookie. Transfer to a non-stick sheet pan.
- Roll out the green dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out leaf shapes. Transfer to the sheet pan with the apple cookies.
- Bake for 12 to 14 minutes in a preheated 350-degree oven. Once baked, remove cookies and allow to completely cool.
- Meanwhile, microwave the caramels in a microwave-safe bowl for 1-1/2 minutes. Stop and stir occasionally until the caramels are melted. Dip one end of each cookie into the melted caramel and then in M&M’S® Brand Milk or Peanut Chocolate Candies.
- Dip a corner of each leaf cookie into the caramel and then attach to an apple cookie. Transfer the cookies to a waxed paper-lined sheet pan until the caramel has firmed up.
