Ingrid Hoffmann’s Baked Hanukkah Doughnuts
Try a tasty alternative to fried doughnuts and enjoy baked doughnuts dipped in chocolate!
Prep time: 30 min.
Baking time: 8 min.
Difficulty: Moderate
What you'll need:
  • 1 bag DOVE® Brand Milk Chocolate Miniatures
  • 1 bag TWIX® Brand Fun Size® Bars
  • 2/3 cup warm milk
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting work surface
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Doughnut cutter or 3" round cookie cutter
  • Pastry brush (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional)
  • Confectioners' sugar for dusting (optional)
What to do:
  1. Place half of the warm milk in the bowl of an electric mixer. Dissolve the yeast in the milk and set aside for five minutes. Mix in the 4 tablespoons of butter, sugar and the remaining warm milk. Stir in the egg, flour, vanilla and salt until well-combined. Using the dough hook attachment, beat the dough at medium speed until it pulls easily away from the sides of the bowl. If necessary, add more milk or flour in order to achieve a slightly sticky but smooth consistency for the dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a lightly-floured surface and shape it into a ball. Transfer the dough to an oiled or buttered bowl and cover it. Place it in a warm spot and let it rise for an hour, or until the dough has roughly doubled in size (approximately 1 hour, 25 minutes).
  3. Preheat oven to 375 F. Punch the dough down and roll it out on a floured surface to form a 1/2-inch thick disc. Cut out circles using the doughnut or cookie cutter. Transfer the circles to a parchment-lined or greased baking sheet and stamp out the inner circles using a smaller cutter. Cover with a clean cloth and let the circles rise for another 45 minutes.
  4. Using the pastry brush, coat doughnuts with melted butter (optional). Bake in the preheated oven until the bottoms are just golden, about 8 minutes.
  5. While the doughnuts are baking, remove the DOVE® Brand Milk Chocolate Miniatures from their wrappers and melt them in a double boiler, or in a metal bowl resting over a small saucepan of simmering water.
  6. Remove doughnuts from the oven and cool. Dip the doughnuts in the melted chocolate and place them on a plate. Sift confectioners’ sugar or crushed TWIX® Brand Fun Size® Bars over the doughnuts and serve.
Tip: Wrap your Hanukkah doughnuts in iridescent cellophane, and seal it with some Hanukkah stickers.
Makes 10 doughnuts.
