Very Merry Ornament Cookies
Very Merry Ornament Cookies
If there’s one thing that children like to see on a Christmas tree, it’s ornaments they can eat! Here’s how to make your own. And, your kids can help!
Prep time: 20 min.
Baking time: 12-15 min.
Decoration time: 30 min.
Difficulty: Easy
What you'll need:
  • 1 bag your favorite M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies
  • Your favorite gingerbread cookie dough (either homemade or from a mix)
  • 4 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/4 cup meringue powder
  • Colored yarn or ribbon
  • 1 plastic drinking straw(s)
  • An assortment of Christmas cookie cutters
What to do:
  1. Prepare dough as directed. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour.
  2. Roll out the cookie dough to 1/4-inch thickness onto a lightly floured surface, such as a cutting board. Cut the dough into a variety of shapes using your Christmas cookie cutters.
  3. To make Ornamental Frosting: Mix the meringue powder in a large bowl with the cold water. Beat until peaks form. Add the sifted powdered sugar, and beat until smooth.
  4. Using a straw, make a small hole near the top of each cookie. Bake the cookies as directed in your favorite recipe, and allow them to cool completely. Then cover them with frosting.
  5. Decorate each cookie using M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies. (Optional hint: You can create stripes and other patterns on the cookies if you sort the M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies by color before you start decorating.)
  6. Allow the frosting to harden. Then thread a short piece of yarn or ribbon through the hole in each cookie and hang the cookies on the tree.
