Very Merry Ornament Cookies
If there’s one thing that children like to see on a Christmas tree, it’s ornaments they can eat! Here’s how to make your own. And, your kids can help!
Prep time: 20 min.
Baking time: 12-15 min.
Decoration time: 30 min.
Difficulty: Easy
What you'll need:
- 1 bag your favorite M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies
- Your favorite gingerbread cookie dough (either homemade or from a mix)
- 4 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1/4 cup meringue powder
- Colored yarn or ribbon
- 1 plastic drinking straw(s)
- An assortment of Christmas cookie cutters
What to do:
- Prepare dough as directed. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour.
- Roll out the cookie dough to 1/4-inch thickness onto a lightly floured surface, such as a cutting board. Cut the dough into a variety of shapes using your Christmas cookie cutters.
- To make Ornamental Frosting: Mix the meringue powder in a large bowl with the cold water. Beat until peaks form. Add the sifted powdered sugar, and beat until smooth.
- Using a straw, make a small hole near the top of each cookie. Bake the cookies as directed in your favorite recipe, and allow them to cool completely. Then cover them with frosting.
- Decorate each cookie using M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies. (Optional hint: You can create stripes and other patterns on the cookies if you sort the M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies by color before you start decorating.)
- Allow the frosting to harden. Then thread a short piece of yarn or ribbon through the hole in each cookie and hang the cookies on the tree.
