Trail Blazer Separate the kids into small groups and give each party a ball of yarn. Let each group blaze a nature trail of their own, unrolling the yarn as they go (be sure an adult accompanies each group so no one gets lost). When everyone returns, let the groups follow each other's nature trail.
Compass Hunt If the kids are a little older, try hiding a secret treasure out in the woods, like a chest full of candy, balloons and small trinkets. Then give the kids a homemade map and a compass, with simple directions to the treasure (ex. Take 25 steps North of the apple tree). It's a great way to learn basic compass skills.
Nature Trail Get to know nature up close and personal. Give everyone a pair of binoculars and a magnifying glass. Map out a trail beforehand and lead the kids on the trail, stopping every so often to admire a bird's nest or colorful plant. Everyone can enjoy the outdoors and learn something too!
